The voice of General Practice – at scale
The North Staffordshire GP Alliance’ is the “At scale primary care provider” entity across North Staffordshire and Stoke on Trent. It is the collaboration of the Primary Care Networks, North Staffordshire GP Federation and the North Staffordshire Local Medical Committee.
Priorities
- To ensure that additional work from pathway redesign does not default to being another task within GMS without commensurate additional resource.
- To ensure that current investment in practice beyond GMS is maintained, no practice is sustainable on a GMS only income stream.
- To ensure that General Practice is recognised as a provider at scale and that the default thinking from the system is that “any out of hospital service that needs to be accessible to the entire population should be delivered from General Practice”
Membership
- PCN Clinical Director joint chair representing Stoke on Trent
- PCN Clinical Director joint chair representing North Staffordshire
- North Staffordshire GP Federation Chair
- North Staffordshire GP Federation Vice Chair
- North Staffordshire GP Federation Executive Team
- LMC Chief Executive
- LMC Medical Director
Principles
- To represent all northern practices at the Staffordshire and Stoke on Trent Integrated Care Board .
- To be the vehicle for developing, co-ordinating and delivering “at scale” primary care.
- Giving due regard to subsidiarity. Decisions about any additional work or development will be considered first from the view of individual practices, then individual PCNs, then groups of PCNs within a locality before being developed on an Alliance footprint.
- Giving due regard to practice choice. Some practices will not want, or have capacity, to undertake some roles. The Alliance will be able to ensure universal population coverage by working with local practices to “fill in the gaps for patients equitably”
- To ensure that the individuals best able to represent all member practices are appointed to external facing positions and that these individuals are supported in this activity and receive annual assessment of their performance, with the option for active mentoring or replacement should there be concern.
