North Staffordshire GP Federation has delivered the Staffordshire CMDU (Covid Medicines Delivery Unit) since its inception in 2022. The service is provided for patients who are particularly vulnerable if they test positive for Covid-19. If a patient is potentially in the eligible group for anti-viral medication, they are referred into our CMDU (by their GP Practice, 111 or the local Hospital Trust) and assessed by a GP via a telephone / video consultation within 24 hours. If they meet the national criteria, the GP prescribes the medication and sends it electronically to the pharmacy most convenient for the patient so they can arrange collection from the pharmacy by a family member or friend.
Whilst the number of patients referred in is significantly lower than it was when Covid was prevalent, this continues to be an important service for a group of vulnerable patients.
